Study Abroad To London, England
In the spring semester of 2012 I was lucky enough to attend a study abroad to London, England one of the busiest, most alive, and most historic cities in the world. At the end of the semester we landed in this beautiful city and started on a life changing adventure. During the beginning months of the semester at SLCC we studied, read books, articles, and took short quizzes to prepare us for the different culture, and history the beautiful city holds. Each day one of us was instructed to get the group to one of the various monuments, museums, or places we attended. This taught us how to navigate throughout the city like natives. We viewed with our own eyes what Londoners view and experience everyday. I was impressed with each museum or landmark we attended the number of school children who were also taking the time to study and learn about the wonderful city they live in.
This three week adventure taught me more about life and the world outside my world than any textbook could ever teach me. It was eye opening, I have never traveled outside the United States before so you could say I have stayed in my bubble my whole life. Going on this study abroad was probably the greatest learning experience I have had in all of my academic career up to this point. I spent months reading about the city of London and British history I felt prepared before I left, but when I arrived I had a whole different view. While we were in the various museums standing merely inches away from artifacts I had spent all semester reading about it gave me a greater understanding and insight to what I had been trying to accomplish throughout the entire semester leading up to this point.
History is one of my favorite subjects, I love to learn about people who lived before me and figure out the life they lead. I stand strongly by motto if you fail to learn about the past you are doomed to repeat it. It's our greatest learning tool, looking back at what people have done before us is the only way to create a new and brighter future. That was one of the main reasons I decided to attend this study abroad London is one of the most historic cities in the world and to have history right at my fingertips is a once in a lifetime opportunity I refused to pass up.
Listed below are the various subjects we spent viewing and discovering while we were in England. Each day we would visit a new place and dive beneath the surface and uncover the history each place holds.
